Blending Strategic Planning and Accreditation

Is the timing of your accreditation cycle matching a desire to engage in strategic planning?  Often, these two processes complement each other.  The accreditation process requires schools to reflect on the effectiveness of current policies, programs and practices. Strategic planning offers the opportunity to envision the aspirations of a school community. When blending these together, schools are able to evaluate the status quo and use this information when considering the long range goals of the organization.  Schools find that it is often easier to look to the future when they have a clear understanding of their current state. Our experiences as internal facilitators for both MSA/CIS accreditation and major strategic planning processes provide us with unique insights into the opportunities and challenges for engaging in these two events simultaneously.
